Find the sum of the geometric series. a1=16,r=12,n=10

Solution.

Given a1=16, r=12 and n=10. The formula to find the sum of n terms of a geometric series is
Sn=a1(1rn)1r,r1. Thus, S10=16(1(12)10)1(12)=16(111024)1+12=161023102432=327363072=10.66667. Hence, the required sum is approximately 10.67 GOOD

Question 8

Find the sum of the geometric series. a1=243,r=23,n=5

Solution.

Given a1=243, r=23, and n=5.

The formula to find the sum of n terms of a geometric series is Sn=a1(1rn)1r,r1. Thus, S5=243(1(23)5)1(23)=243(1+32243)1+23=24327524353=165. Hence, the required sum is 165. GOOD
