The general term of the given series is: an=1+12+14+18+⋯+12n−1an=1[1−(12)n]1−12an=2⋅[1−12n]⇒an=2−12n−1⇒an=2(1−12n) Taking summation on the both sides n∑r=1ai=2n∑r=11−n∑r=112r−1=2n−1[1−(12)n]1−12=2n−2[r12n] Thus the sum to n terms is: Sn=12n−1+2(n−1) Hence2(1−12n);12n−1+2(n−1)
