Question 5
Find the complex number z if 4z−3ˉz=1−18i2−i
Solution.
Suppose z=x+iy, then ˉz=x−iy. So we have 4z−3ˉz=1−18i2−i⟹4(x+iy)−3(x−iy)=1−18i2−i×2+i2+i⟹4x+4iy−3x+3iy=(1−18i)(2+i)22−i2 ⟹x+7iy=2−18i2−36i+i4+1=20−35i5=5(4−7i)5⟹x+7iy=4−7i Equating real and imaginary parts. x=4and7y=−7 i.e. y=−1. Thus we have z=x+iy=4−i.
