Find the sum of arithmetic series with: a1=50, n=20, d=−4.
Solution.
Given: a1=50, n=20, d=−4.
Let Sn represents sum of arithmetic series. Then
Sn=n2[2a1+(n−1)d]⟹S20=202[2(50)+(20−1)(−4)]=10×[100−76]=240.
Hence S20=240.
Question 6
Find the sum of series. −3+(−7)+(−11)+⋯+a10
Solution.
Given series is arithmetic series with a1=−3, d=−7−(−3)=−4, n=10.
Let Sn represents sum of arithmetic series. Then
Sn=n2[2a1+(n−1)d]⟹S10=102[2(−3)+(10−1)(−4)]=5×[−6−36]=−210.
Hence S10=−210.
